[Martha Wetherbee Basket Workshop]

Here are some snapshots from yet another pair of wonderful workshops with Martha Wetherbee we had here in St. Louis June 19-22, 2003. Martha offered two classes, the second in a series of Nantucket signature nesting baskets and a Shaker keepsake basket woven of brown ash.

Martha Wetherbee Workshop 2003

With everybody ready to get to work we jump right in. Anne already has the first few rows woven and has banded her staves to the mold and is quick drying them with a hair dryer.

Wanda is weaving away. She is getting to the critical point where the staves wrap around the sides of the mold.

Cindy is past the curve of the mold and is quickly weaving up the sides of the basket.

The baskets are already coming off the molds. Cindy is packing all the rows of weaving to make sure there aren't any spaces between the rows.

Once the baskets are packed and leveled the staves can be trimmed even. Annette takes a moment to marvel at all her hard work over the last two days.
